Gabriela Artigas

Remember the toothbrush bracelet?

For those who don't, the toothbrush bracelet was a pop-culture masterpiece created by a (then) design student named Gabriela Artigas.

It was a simple piece, consisting of a toothbrush, bristles removed, that was softened to the point of malleability and formed into a colorful cuff.

I recall several (failed) attempts to recreate them in my kitchen with an enormous pot of boiling water and the toothbrushes of (unsuspecting) family members.

Well, looks like a lot has changed since those days.

Ms. Artigas has traded her toothbrush medium for vintage-y looking metals and semi precious stones and I no longer attempt such feats at home.

Now a well established LA based designer, Gabriela's collections are carried by the likes of Fred Segal and Melrose's Kill City Conspirators.

All marked with an edgy simplicity, her collections work excellently for both day and night.

My favorites?

Stackable rings shaped like nuts (as in nuts and bolts), a delicate mesh metal bow bracelet, and a huge knotted chain necklace (above).
